    Born in England; (father of Douglas G. Chant?); in Chicago, Illinois, by 1855, music dealer, music teacher, organbuilder (1861?)-1864; with Pilcher Bros. firm as Pilcher Brothers & Chant, 1864-1866; operated firm, 1866-1869; partner with William Jackson, 1869/1870; (organ tuner or service thereafter?); (in Florida and died there?).


    • The Stopt Diapason, no. 26 (newsletter of the Chicago-Midwest Chapter of the Organ Historical Society, Hoffman Estates, Illinois). [According to this source, Michael D. Friesen, "A Chronological History of Organbuilders in Chicago,” The Stopt Diapason, no. 26 (April 1984): 20, 23, Henry William Chant was listed in Chicago city directories up to 1875. "Sometime after 1875 Chant left Chicago, and even in 1899 he was not really traceable.” -Ed.]
