Born in Gothenburg, Sweden; with Malinjos piano factory in Sweden; immigrated to the United States in the 1880s; with several piano firms in Chicago, Illinois; established Kurtz-Seeburg Action Co. of Rockford, Illinois, 1895; with Marquette Piano Co. of Chicago, Illinois, c. 1900; established J. P. Seeburg Piano Co. of Chicago, Illinois, c. 1907, player pianos and organs; partner with Frederick W. Smith in Seeburg-Smith firm of Chicago, Illinois, 1916-1921.
