This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ.
Identified by Steven Bartley
This instrument is located in a mid 20th century cube shaped building. The pipe chambers are hidden behind white fabric in the reredos, at an elevated level. Two side by side chambers, both with expression shades. The church musician explained that the organ was one created by an organ enthusiast from another state, using many second hand pipes and parts. The specification is rational and fairly complete. Some older pipe work is used as originally made, some has been altered to make for better tonal result. Some new supply pipe work is intermixed. The wind chests appear to be supply house all electric-unit actions. The workmanship is good, and neat, both with the pipes and the installation. The chambers have space for the technician and are well lit. A few tonal additions and alterations would make this a very usable instrument, given its installation and the acoustics of the room. To the casual viewer, its mix pedigree may be a turn off, but it is hard to know how another builder, building an instrument of whole cloth would have made a better outcome with the limited resources.
