NOTES
This organ has its origins in an instrument built by J.W. Steere and Son from Springfield,
Mass. c. 1915 for a church in Auburn, New York. The organ was placed for sale in 1963, and
was discovered by Christ Memorial Church parishioner and organ technician Rodney Trostad.
After purchase approval was given by the Board, Mr. Trostad and church treasurer Glen Odle
flew to New York to dismantle and pack the instrument for shipping. A used, c. 1929, III-
manual, M.P. Möller console, opus 6753, was purchased from a church in Pennsylvania. Six
additional ranks of pipes were secured in Seattle.
By Christmas 1965, the Great had three ranks sounding and one Pedal rank was playing. Bit
by bit the organ continued to grow. By the time of the dedication of the new church, the
organ was up to 14 ranks, and well on its way to the planned total of 23 voices. One addi-
tional rank was added before work on the instrument was stopped. The Church was able to
purchase, ship, renovate, and install this instrument for only $4,600.00.
Christ Memorial Church later moved to a new, much larger facility and acquired a used,
III-manual Reuter from the closed First Methodist in Yakima, WA., which Mr Trostad installed
in the new facility. The former church housing the Steere-Trostad organ was sold to Liberty
Bay Presbyterian Church, who in the mid 1990-s advertised the instrument for sale.
The Great 2' Fifteenth stoptablet actually controls an 8' Aeoline rank. The Swell 8' Aloline
[sic] stoptablet actually controls an 8' Dulciana. The Swell 8' Bourdon has been transposed
as a tenor C 16' Bourdon. The 2' Nachthorn is actually a common metal 2' Fifteenth. The Pedal
8' Bourdon has been wired as a Pedal-to-Pedal 4' coupler.
