Andover Organ Company was founded in 1948 as a result of the Andover Organ Institute, a summer school held at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, which reintroduced mechanical, or tracker, action organs into the United States. The company began by maintaining and rebuilding old tracker organs and was one of the first to begin saving 18th and 19th century American organs.

In 1959, Andover built one of the first new tracker organs by an American firm since the 1930s. In 1964 the firm carried out the world's first re-trackerization of an electrified tracker organ.
