Joseph Foster was the brother of Ephraim Foster. He was building reed organs by 1831; (partner with Henry Pratt in Foster, Pratt & Co. of Winchester, Massachusetts, c. 1835?); partner with Albert Thayer in Foster & Thayer, lap reed organs, of Winchester, Massachusetts, 1842-1845; partner with Charles Felt in Foster & Felt in Keene, New Hampshire, 1845; partner with his brother in J. & E. Foster, 1866, melodians, reed and pipe organs; succeeded by his brother.
