John L. Geib, Sr. was born February 27, 1744 in Standerheim, Germany; he was the father of Adam and John L. Geib, Jr (twins). Geib was in London, England, c. 1760, working with organs and pianos. Geib Sr. immigrated to the United States, around 1797; he established Geib & Co. of New York City, New York, 1802-1803; the firm became a partnership when John Sr joined with John Geib, Jr. in John Geib & Son, 1805-1813. Adam Geib may have also worked with the firm. John Geib Sr died in 1818. His son, John Jr. died two years.
