German native Winfried Banzhaf started with the Link Brothers of Giengen, Germany, 1953-1960 learning the craft there; he then worked with J. H. Joergensen Organbuilders of Olso, Norway, 1960-1963. Banzhaf moved to the United States in 1963 and was with Otto Hofmann of Austin, Texas, 1963-1965; then with Abbott & Sieker of Los Angeles, California, 1965-1968. Banzhaf left organ building to pursue photography at Brock Institute, Santa Barbara, California, 1968-1970; becoming a photographer in Stuttgart, Germany, and Los Angeles, California. Winfried Banzhaf established his own organ firm in Venice, California, in 1977, the firm was active until at least 1993. Banzhad returned to Germany sometime before 2005.
