With his father's firm in Louisville, Kentucky, by 1866; established his own firm, briefly named Louisville Organ Manufactory, in Louisville, Kentucky, by 1867; in St. Meinrad, Indiana, 1874-c. 1889; in Owensboro, Kentucky, c. 1889-1891; in Louisville, Kentucky, 1892, firm named August Prante & Son(s), 1895; died in carriage accident in Louisville, Kentucky. Succeeded by his sons.
