R. A. Denton of Hamilton Ontario became R. A. Denton & Son in 1936 when the first of the three Denton brothers (Ellery, Allan, and Richard) joined his father's firm. R. A. Denton was in turn the successor to Hamilton Church Organ Works of Hamilton Ont (1910-1920's) which was established by the Dentons after taking over the firm of Walter Spencer Organbuilder of Hamilton Ontario (1871-1910). The Dentons had worked closely with Walter Spencer from about 1890 onwards.
