Born April 22, 1803 in Norway, Maine; brother of William Stevens; carpenter; in Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1820; with William M. Goodrich firm of Cambridgeport, Massachusetts, he acquired the firm in 1833; he became partner with M. R. Gayetty, [Stevens & Gayetty] of East Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1833-1839. [After the partnership ended, he continued as Geo. Stevens & Co.]

[Concurrently with his organ business,] he held local government offices; he was mayor of Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1851-1853. He also worked with Cambridge Savings Bank, 30 years, president. He retired from the organ business, 1892; and was succeeded by his former employees George Gilbert and James Butler as Gilbert & Butler. Stevens died August 15, 1894 in East Cambridge, Massachusetts.
