Joseph S. Whiteford was born 19 December, 1921 in Washington, DC. He attended Swathmore College, Wesleyan College, and George Washington University Law School. He was with West Maryland Co. in 1943. He was in the armed services during World War II. After the war, he joined the Aeolian-Skinner firm, and was assistant to president G. Donald Harrison. After Harrison's death in 1956, Whiteford became president of firm as well as tonal director. He left the company in 1966 and moved to southern California. He died 21 Sep. 1978 in Santa Barbara, CA.
