Born March 4, 1804, in Kennebunk, Maine; adopted by a Mr. Bourne of Kennebunk, father of Joseph Alley, Jr.; built experimental organ with Henry Ward Poole (and C. Somerby?), c. 1848 to after 1853; active in Newburyport, Massachusetts, 1826-1851; became pipemaker; died March 8, 1880, in Newburyport, Massachusetts.
