Updated by Steve Bartley, who maintains the organ. Steve Bartley also named this publication as a source of information: Sun Paper,Aug 15, 1854, pg; Feb 6, 1874 pg4.

Current research has revealed that Dr. Ebling (Eberling) was the Lutheran pastor at Salem Lutheran, Catonsville, starting in the late 1840s and was there for 30+ years. The Baltimore Sun Paper Aug 15, 1854, in a lengthy account of Pomplitz "new factory" states that the organ, built for Ebeling's parlor was 12' high x 8' wide x 4' deep. Two rows of keys, solid mahogany in the Gothic style, 8 stops.

So far research has only revealed Ebeling living in Catonsville (a western suburb of the city). It is also interesting that Ebeling was one of two officiants at Pompliz's funeral. The Pomplitz shop/home was on east Pratt Street, not near Catonsville. The old building for Salem Lutheran contains a 1 man organ previously thought to be by Henry Berger, having been built for St Timothy's Episcopal, Catonsville, by unknown builder 1876 [confirmed during restoration to be Charles Strohl], (after Pomplitz's death). Though it is possible that Pomplitz built the Salem organ, it is odd that it never was mentioned in the papers. [This is speculation, later proved to be incorrect.] It is interesting since Ebeling had a close relationship with Pomplitz, that Pomplitz would have not built for the pastor's church.
