The church was the site of the funerals for Frederick Douglass in 1895 and Susann B. Anthony in 1906; the building was acquired by the Hochstein Music School in 1978.

Database Manager on January 29th, 2011:

Updated through on-line information from Jeff Scofield. -- Combination described as 'absolute.' Replaced by an Allen in the early 1960's and stored briefly before being moved to Kirkwood Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia; the Kirkwood church closed in 1979 and the facilities were sold to Israel Missionary Baptist Church; the organ was used for a number of years more until it eventually became unplayable and the chambers were sealed; the console was seen in place during a 1999 visit and was in excellent condition, cosmetically; however, the choirloft flooring now completely covers the pedalboard and the console is only visible from the top row of toe studs up - very unique. The console sits front and center in silent splendour.

Database Manager on March 7th, 2007:

The figure recorded under "Registers" in the list above refers to the total number of speaking stops, including including duplexed and extended stops but excluding couplers, tremulants and controls. "Stops" refers to the number of independent or straight stops excluding cuplexed and extended stops as well as couplers and controls. There are 116 couplers on this organ.
