Ryan-Michael Blake on August 11th, 2021:
A contract was signed with Austin Organs, Inc. on July 30, 1969 for the sum of $49,540.00. Installation began on October 10, 1970 and the tonal finishing was completed on January 10, 1971, during such time the congregation used an electronic organ provided by a local individual.
The instrument was dedicated to the glory of God on Sunday, February 21, 1971 with a program by John M. "Jack" Levick Jr., including works by Bach, Byrd, Haydn, Langlais, Reger, Sowerby, Thompson, and Widor. The program also included Ralph Vaughn Williams' O clap your hands and Franck's Psalm 150 by the combined choirs of First Lutheran and Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Frieda and Charles Vogan, respectively.
The turn of the century saw an extension of the Swell Oboe to 8' and 16' pitch.
By 2016, the organ was showing signs of age and a few substantial repairs were needed. Gradually, each new issue demanded careful consideration, and some repairs were deemed too costly. The console was disconnected on July 27, 2021 in preparation for a renovation, to include a tonal expansion and the installation of a new console.
