Updated through information from Jeffrey Smith: -- The instrument remains in the same building in which it was installed; it was neither sold nor moved. As the Back Bay was developed, the Brattle Square Society (Unitarian) commissioned H H Richardson to design a new church for them which resulted in the present building on Commonwealth Avenue at Clarendon Street. (As an aside, it is dated as 1871; his more famous Trinity Church Copley Square followed in 1872.) However, the cost overruns were so extreme that the congregation was bankrupted and forced to disband. They never occupied the building -- ever -- and sold it at auction to the First Baptist Church of Boston, who have occupied it ( as their 5th building) ever since.<br>I do not know if the Unitarians put in the organ when they erected the church or if the Baptists did so after taking possession of the structure. [Manager's Note -- The Hook & Hastings Opus List of 1895 lists the church as "Brattle Sq.Society."]
