Paul R. Marchesano on January 26th, 2023:
In 1 873 the vestry gave consideration to removing the organ from the balcony to the north transept, but this was not considered practical. Instead, the church ordered a new organ from Marshall Bros. & Clarke of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for $2,500, plus the old organ. However, financial difficulties resulted in the church asking for a lower cost for the instrument. Lilly's history notes: "The upshot of the matter was that in the following year, the church offered a note to Marshall Brothers for $300.00 to be released from the contract altogether." There was a financial panic this year, the results of which no doubt were felt at Christ Church. -- *2007 OHS Atlas*
