The installation date was previously thought to have been ca. 1898. In a brief announcement in the Philadelphia Times, 24 April 1892, of the dedication of a new organ:
"A sacred concert will be given on Thursday evening at St. Peter Claver's Roman Catholic Church for colored people, at Twelfth and Lombard streets, on the occasion of a dedication of new church organ."
The church was closed in 1985, but Masses continued in the building.
