Jim Stettner on October 18th, 2026:

From the dedication program of the Andover installed in 1985-86: " The first known organ was a four rank [Ed. - 5 according to Reuter opus list] unit organ built by the Reuter Organ Co. of Lawrence, Kansas, sometime in the 1920's. [Ed. - 1938 according to Reuter files]. It was installed in a chamber on the Epistle side of the divided chancel above the choir, the console placed on the opposite side."

"When the church was remodeled in the 1960's, the altar was brought forward and the choir and organ were placed behind the altar platform, the pipes then being in a chamber behind a wooden grill[e]. This grill[e] was at the front of what is now the shell in which the choir and organ are now placed. By the late 1960's the Reuter organ was in very poor condition. It was removed and sold to a private party."

It was replaced by an electronic substitute which only served about 10 years before its condition reportedly made replacement desirable.
