Church and organ destroyed in 1906 earthquake (per Louis J. Schoenstein, Memoirs of a San Francisco Organ Builder, p. 64)
Information received online from Chris Keady on 2025-11-30
The San Francisco Sunday Chronicle , March 2, 1890, reported the donation of the organ, to be built by "George S. Hutchings of Boston" (see under "Documents").
"A New Church Organ," San Francisco Morning Call, July 25, 1890, 3, Newspapers.com, accessed January 20, 2024, https://www.newspapers.com/image/92940773:
The new organ for the First Congregational Church has arrived from Boston.
Three cars were needed to carry the 168 boxes in which the organ had been packed
in sections. A large zinc-lined shed has been built in the rear of the church
in which will be placed the machinery necessary to operate the organ.
It will take from a month to six weeks to place the organ in working order.
The interior of the church is being handsomely renovated.
Clarence Eddy inaugurated the organ in two recitals on September 4 and 5, 1890 (see under "Documents").
Identified through information from James Lewis: -- Replaced a Stevens organ of 1853 that had been enlarged and installed in this building in 1872.
