Updated through on-line information from David Ritch. -- Founded in 1857 as the Charlotte Female Institute, the name was changed to Presbyterian Female College in 1896 and then to the Presbyterian College for Women in 1910. In 1913 the college was renamed Queens College, and the campus moved from downtown Charlotte (College and 9th) to its present location.
