Organ Built by J. Butler under the supervision of J, H, Willcox. A rebuild, 1871, of an older organ or organs. -- 1961 OHS Handbook
Updated through online information from Scot Huntington.
The organ was left totally unplayable after an aborted attempt to electrify it by an itinerant amateur passing themselves off as an organ technician, in 1979. Lack of funding thereafter in this struggling South Boston parish prevented the salvaging of this important instrument to some semblance of usefullness. The church was closed by the diocese in 2004 and the Patrick Keeley building was converted into exclusive condominiums in 2014. The pipework was purchased by organbuilder A. David Moore, and what remained of the mechanism and massive windchests were discarded.
Identified through research conducted by Sand Lawn, courtesy of David Scribner. W. B. D. Simmons organ rebuilt by Joel Butler of Boston, under the supervision of J. H. Willcox; electrified in 1979.
