Updated through on-line information from T. Bradford Willis, DDS. -- The Official Texas Historical Building Marker states: Austin Avenue Methodist Church Designed by R.H. Hunt, this edifice is a substantial interpretation of Gothic architecture. It was built in 1925 during the ministry of the Rev. Cullom H. Booth. The two-story- equivalent brick structure, which rests on a raised basement, features a prominent bell tower. The original tracery detail in the tower was removed by the 1940's. The original art glass windows and tracery detail in the sanctuary were replaced after a 1954 fire caused extensive damage. RECORDED TEXAS HISTORIC LANDMARK - 1990
Identified through on-line information from T.Bradford Willis, DDS. -- The contract for the organ was signed on April 26, 1930 in Waco by J. R. Milam, chairman of the board of trustees of Austin Avenue Church, and T.H. Jackson, secretary. It also has the church seal and has the signature of Roy J. Abbott, salesman for Geo. Kilgen & Son, Inc. The space for the president-vice president-treasurer for the organ company is blank on the contract in the Austin Avenue church archives. The cost of the organ was $9,500.00 and this was to be paid in cash on installation. The display pipes were to be gold bronze and lacquered. An echo organ was to be installed in the ceiling of the nave.
