From Michael Friesen's "Henry Kilgen, St. Louis Organbuilder" --
"It was not until 1893 that the church acquired a
second-hand Gratian organ, built prior to 1870 and originally
installed in an unnamed church in St. Louis.25 The press
implied that it was the congregation-s first pipe organ. It was
replaced by Wicks, Op. 4668, in 1952, which was moved to
the new 1967 church."
Identified by Daniel Hancock: -- Depicted and listed in The Gratian Organ Builders, published by Warren Burke Gratian, 1922, Alton, Illinois, in which a testimonial is given by the Music Committee of First Baptist Church, "The organ which you built for our church fourteen years ago, as also the one in the Upper Alton Church, which is a much older instrument, continues to give the greatest satisfaction.
