According to the Johnson opus list as published in Johnson Organs: 1844-1898 by Scot L. Huntington, Barbara Owen, Stephen L. Pinel, and Martin R. Walsh [The Princeton Academy of Arts, Culture, and Society of Cranbury, NJ. © 2015] there was no Johnson organ installed in a Presbyterian Church in Albany in 1860-61. State Street Presbyterian had a temporary Johnson in 1862 which was replaced by a larger Johnson in a new edifice in 1863. And Fourth Presbyterian received a new Johnson in 1866. These are the only Johnson organs recorded for Presbyterian Churches in Albany, NY. This raises the question of whether the organ installed at First Presbyterian on Philip & Hudson Streets was a second-hand instrument.

Daniel Hancock. -- The "American Musical Directory," Thomas Hutchinson, New York, 1861, reports "The organ is placed on the floor, by the side of the pulpit. Size of organ--2 banks keys, 26 stops, 1-1/2 octaves pedals. Built by Wm. A. Johnson, of Westfield, Mass., in 1860."
