Originally built by Reuben Midmer Sr. as a sizeable two-manual organ for the Hanson Place Methodist Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, New York. This organ was replaced there by a 43-register three-manual Hook & Hastings No. 1303, 1886 with the Midmer taken in trade and installed here in Rutland that year. The Midmer was electrified by Arthur Kohl of Rochester, New York in 1941 possibly with tonal revisions, in failing condition by the late 1970s, heavily rebuilt by Wessel & Brys ca. 1985, and connected to the new three-manual gallery console of a hybrid digital Wicks 3-rank Sanctuary organ in 1996. The new Wicks console contains additional preparations for gallery organ stops, no doubt intended to be imitation.
