The organ was opened with a recital by organist Prof. Harris and treble soloist, Frederick Williams, "the leading soloist of Westminster Abbey." The Daily British Whig (February 11, 1891) stated that the organ was the "largest between Toronto and Montreal and one of the largest in Canada ... The tone of the Choir Organ is very rich, but the Great and Swell Organs are somewhat harsh, possibly because of newness. There is great volume in these but lacking in distinctness and richness of tone." The organ evidently proved to have some deficiencies as further repairs were undertaken by a different firm a few years later.
