From The Ottawa Journal (March 17, 1906): "A pipe organ has been purchased for St. Matthew's Church from Breckles & Matthews of Toronto, which it is hoped to have installed by Easter. Judging by the specification the instrument will be a very useful one, and we are sure will add much to the beauty and harmony of the services ..."
It is unknown why the instrument was replaced so soon by Casavant Freres, Op. 376, in 1909, although judging by similarities in the specifications it's possible the Breckles & Matthews organ was rebuilt by Casavant.
