On June 26, 1894 an order was placed with J.W Steere & Son for a two-manual organ of twenty-one registers. Costing $1,600, the instrument was due for delivery in six weeks. The Mercury of August 10 reported: "The new pipe organ is being set up at the Methodist Church. Ten days will probably be required in which to complete the work." Installed under a windowless chancel apse, the instrument was inaugurated at a concert August 24, 1894. The program, played by Prof. W. J. Kugler of Boston, included works by W. T. Best, Buck, Faure, Lemmens, Mozart, Geo. Whiting and A. Thomas. The Steere organ served until 1929, whereupon it was moved to the Methodist Church of North Hoosick, New York, where it remains. -- 2006 OHS Organ Atlas
