A third structure hosted a Mead organ (Montreal) of five stops from 1840 through 1845, at which point it was replaced by an instrument built by May & Son originally for the Adelphi Terrace, London. On April 9, 1849, a large area of the commercial core of the town was destroyed by fire, including St. James’ Cathedral and its May & Son organ. -- 2023 OHS Handbook
