Saint Joseph parish in Shediac began in 1800. The first Catholic chapel was built in 1859 and was replaced by the first church in 1872. -- Parish history web page, Archdiocese of Moncton
From the Telegraph-Journal (April 4, 1876): "The catholic congregation of Shediac, have recently procured a fine pipe organ for their church .... It is said to be a very fine and powerful instrument; it was purchased from Messrs. Landry & Co., of this city, for the sum of $1100."
