Scot Huntington on April 29th, 2025:

Following a disastrous fire which burned the historic building to the ground in 1909, the Universalists built a new brick building and fitted it with an Estey. The church's decision to gift the Pratt organ to the town in 1903 as a town heritage artifact, was indeed fortuitous.

Jim Stettner on April 29th, 2025:

This entry represents the installation of a used organ. Updated through online information from Scot L. Huntington (April 12, 2025): Originally installed in the Winchester Meeting House, later Congregational, the organ was given to the town in 1842 when the Congregationalists built a new building. The town sold it to the Universalists where it was presumably installed by a member of the Pratt family, Henry having died August 28th, 1841. It was repaired by Henry's son Julius, ca. 1850.

The organ is listed in the church records as decrepit and unplayable in 1882. The Universalists gave the organ to the town in 1903 which had it installed in the new Conant Library.
