The old organ of St. James PE church was being replaced with one built by the Johnson Co. of MA. This organ was to be renovated and installed in the St. John's PE church Lancaster. The article said that the original organ was a one manual instrument of 8 ranks built by John Wind, of Lancaster PA. in 1818. It was a GG compass. Year later (1850s) The Pomplitz organ Co of Baltimore MD. enlarged the organ, adding a Swell division of 5 stops (CC compass) and pedal of two stops. As part of the move to its new home (St. John's PE church, the organ was rebuilt by Chamberlin & Holland (of Boston). [Ed.: This firm was known for building Melodeons and reed organs. It is possible they moved this organ to St John's because of its size. No pipe organs are known to have been built by this firm. 2025-11-04.]
