Jim Stettner on October 27th, 2026:

From the Walker Pipe Organs website, "Sometime during the mid-20th century, the Methodist Church in Melrose, NY. acquired a small 19th century tracker organ from a church in Albany. It had been electrified with electro-pneumatic pull-downs on the chests with electro-pneumatic motors on the stop action. The original tracker key desk had been discarded and a supply house key desk was fitted in its place including new keyboards and pedalboard as well as stop switches. By 2003, the electrical system and the pull-downs had started to fail and within the year the organ had failed and sat unused for the next three years. Walker Pipe Organs was retained to get the instrument back into playing condition. The pneumatic pull-down actions were replaced with electric pull-down magnets and the key desk was gutted and refitted with new key contacts and new solid-state stop switches. A new Syndyne combination action and operating system was installed to control the organ. Four new stops are prepared for as well as cosmetic work to the case."

Jim Stettner on October 25th, 2026:

This entry represents the installation of a used organ. Identified through online information from organist Albert Yasus Jr. (October 24, 2026): The Melrose Methodist Church contains a two manual organ by the Buhl organ company. Exact date of construction is unknown, but estimated to be late 1800's. The organ was installed in October 1961 after being acquired from a church in Albany. It was regularly tuned by the Carey Organ company of Troy through the 80's. In 2003, the organ failed completely. Through 2006-2007, the organ was rehabilitated and reorganized by Peter Walker of the Walker Pipe Organ Company out of Brattleboro, VT. using Syndyne components. Since 2025, the organ has been maintained by the COSS Organ Company of Delmar, NY.

Editor-JS: If the organ is from the 1880's, then it's not an original Buhl as Buhl existed from 1926 into the 1940's.
