Updated through online information from don belben. -- According to the dedication booklet, the organ then had 45 ranks, and 2322 pipes. Circa 1992 a Bourdon/Sub Bass 16' was added to the Great division with 61 pipes, and duplexed to the pedal. In the 1991-92 period a Choir division of 14 ranks was added to the instrument. This would then bring the total pipe count to ca. 3237, if all the choir ranks have 61 pipes. The former organ's Austin console (3m) was salvaged from the 1975 fire and rebuilt for the new organ. It should be noted the the Solo division's Tuba 8'(a 1 stop div.) came from the Christ Church, Episcopal organ in Needham, Massachusetts, when it was rebuilt some years ago. This organ was originally a ca. 1940 Aeolian-Skinner located in the Yankee Network studio in Boston, with 4 manuals. The new First Baptist Church in Beverly, Massachusetts has a very reverberant sanctuary, which just enhances this very impressive organ. (Some of the information is my report was kindly given to me by Thad Outerbridge, himself, who is a very notable organ builder/voicer in this area. )
Status Note: There 1979
Dedicated 5 Nov 1979. Contains some pipework from the previous, much rebuilt, 1869 2-27 Johnson, Op. 297 saved from a 1975 fire that ruined the former building.
