According to the Elmira Daily Advertiser (April 4, 1868): "The Roman Catholic Church is to provide itself with a new organ during the coming year." Since St. Peter & Paul was the original Roman Catholic parish in Elmira, this likely refers to the installation of a William King organ that year. The organ was likely replaced by a new King organ in 1881.
This organ is also known from the William King work list compiled by King researcher Dr. Donald R.M. Patterson, and published in The Tracker XVI:4:1972.
This organ was substantially rebuilt by Fred Betts in 1940, and subsequently by R. Wilson Ross/ finished by Michael Sussick. The case has been destroyed.
