The church was gutted by fire on December 22, 1977, as reported in Stephen Crimmin, "Fire Destroys St. Francis Church," Windsor (VT) Chronicle, December 22, 1977, insert, 1–2, Newspapaers.com, https://www.newspapers.com/image/906550637 and https://www.newspapers.com/image/906550647. The newspaper quoted Father Forrest Rouelle, the church's rector: "Nothing was saved. The sanctuary, the creche with lights - - everything in the interior is gone." The newspaper did not mention the organ, but "Church Fires," Boston Organ Club Newsletter 14, no. 2 (whole no. 117) (March–April 1978): 1, stated, "On December 22, St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church, Windsor, Vt., was gutted by a fire which destroyed the 2-8 tubular-pneumatic Estey organ, Opus 2778, 1928."
Identified by James R. Stettner through information from the Estey Opus List, published in The Boston Organ Club newsletter, 1973-1979.
