This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ.
Identified by James R. Stettner, based on personal knowledge of the organ.
-- This congregation was originally formed in 1868 as the Lowell Street Free Congregational Church. In 1873 they were the Free Congregational Church on Common St. In 1875, they merged with Trinity Methodist (1872) as a Primitive Methodist congregation. In 1877, they reorganized as Tower Hill Congregational Church. In 1886, they merged with Riverside Congregational Church at the Tower Congregational edifice, and renamed as United Congregational. Evidently, some previous Riverside members left to re-form Riverside Congregational. In 1972, United Congregational merged again with Riverside Congregational - this time at Riverside's edifice, and renamed as United Riverside Congregational Church. The former United Congregational building was later sold to the Evangelical Spanish Church (Iglesia Evangelica Hispaña). The E.W. Lane was rebuilt and enlarged by A.B. Whiton of Methuen, Massachusetts in 1921.
