Andrew Henderson on October 4th, 2024:
From "Telegraph-Journal" (Saint John, NB), August 9, 1878): "The new organ was built by Stevens, of East Cambridge, Mass. It has two sets of manuals (or key boards) from CC to A in alt., with a pedal key board of 30 notes, extending down to C.C.C., 16 feet, double open diapason, together with a bourdon of 8 feet of the same pitch as the former, but different in quality of tone. The power of the great organ is derived from various stops, the most powerful of which is the trumpet, and embracing the other stops usual in a fine church organ, including some beautiful solo stops. The swell organ is of considerable power and embraces stops of very pleasing quality, especially the keralauphon [sic] and salicional. The shutters of the swell are of the upright form, with a self balance and pedal. The case is of a light wood, tastefully trimmed with walnut. The front pipes are handsomely diapered, and the whole instrument is capable of some varied and delightful effects from that of the lightest whisper to that of the thundering bass, and the general effect of the full organ is of a very silvery character."
