Rev. Scott Siciliano on May 29th, 2026:

From Church Website:

Historic Salem United Church of Christ is Columbia's oldest church, known to some as "Mother Church."

Over 200 years ago, Samuel Wright donated land on which Salem's original cornerstone was laid in 1805. The congregation itself dates back to 1803, when members gathered in each other's homes to worship. During this time the church was German speaking, compromised of both German Reformed and Lutheran members.

Later, Salem became part of the (German) Evangelical Synod of North America. Services in German continued until 1939, followed the next year by the church becoming known as Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church of Columbia. In 1957, the German Evangelical and Reformed denomination merged with the Congregational and Christian churches to form the United Church of Christ.

Paul R. Marchesano on November 19th, 2020:

"REDEDICATE PIPE ORGAN - Columbia, Pa., Dec, 17.--Salem Evangelical Church, of the Synod of North America, on Sunday night rededicated the pipe organ in their church, which has just been remodeled and improved. Special exercises were conducted by the Rev. Paul Breisemeister, the pastor, who himself rendered several selections on the organ. The choir rendered special music."- Known from a report of the rededication of the organ from the Harrisburg Telegraph, 17 December 1918, pg. 2.
